Scrubs is Back

The new season of Scrubs starts tonight and it's filled with babies.

1. Dr. Cox is getting ready for baby #2
2. J.D. finds out his girlfriend is pregnant
3. Turk and Carla are having a second baby, and in some wierd misguided "young-people-use-the-internet" thing, NBC let fans choose the name. That might not be the best; just ask Sunshine Megatron.

You can see a preview only at NBC, since (in another we don't get the internet move), they won't allow videos on YouTube or DailyMotion.

Now it may just be me, but don't dying shows just keep adding new characters? I know they're babies, but this doesn't bode well for one of my favorite comedies. That, and the Thursday night slot against Grey's Anatomy and CSI. I mean, nobody watches those shows...

Well, not exactly. But newly-Emmy-award-winning Ricky Gervais doesn't want her on his show, Extras.

"I guess he's obviously scared of starring alongside an A-lister," Paris Hilton told a California newspaper. Gervais has already had Ben Stiller, Kate Winslet and Samuel "L" Jackson on the show.

If she's an A-lister, they need to add some more letters to the alphabet. I say we add on some of those unpronouncable ones from others languages, like the weird ae thing they use in French. It adds class.

Like Paeris Hilton. See. Well, that didn't exactly work, but you get the point.

The Gray Lady Doesn't Watch Survivor

So, you've heard all the hoopla about the latest version of Survivor, which will divide the teams along racial lines.

So The Times ran an article about it too, using that same picture everyone else did--of the Fall 2006 contestants broken in up to four groups: Hispanics on the top left, Blacks on the top right; Whites on the bottom left; and Asians on the bottom right.

But the caption they used was:

The fall cast would be more diverse than only 25% Caucasian on a CBS show? Quick: name all the minority characters on CBS' primetime lineup (Deacon, Warrick, the new Hispanic chick on Without a Trace). Could it be more obvious that this was a picture of the new cast, accompanying an article about the new cast?

Now, I know it's not Bill Carter's fault. Editors write captions. But shouldn't editors read articles? Or at least headlines?

And on a side note: Is Mark Burnett crazy? Here is a sampling of his quotes in the article:
"In New York you will find areas like Little Afghanistan."
"Maybe in the year 3010, when we're all coffee-colored, it really will make no difference. But right now, it is what it is."
"[Contestants] are not going to care if you're green or Martian."

Either way, I still won't be watching...

Depressing Bus

This morning, on my way to work, I passed a bus with two ads on the side: one for Life is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story and one for Chaim Witz's Family Jewels.

It was very depressing.

At least there was a Martin Short ad on the back...
